2002 - Enrico Decleva

Enrico Decleva is an internationally renowned scholar, the chancellor of the University of Milan and one of the best known researchers in the history of Lombardy and Milan in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. An arts graduate, he has taught modern and contemporary history at the University of Milan since 1972. He is also Chairman of the Lombardian Regional University Committee. He has helped to foster cultural relations between Switzerland, Italian-speaking Switzerland and Italy thanks to his activities as a scholar and cultural specialist in the field of the humanities, as a prestigious academic, and as a representative of culture and training at national and international level. His extensive research into the history of Switzerland and Ticino, his comprehensive studies of Italian-Swiss relations and his work as Chancellor of the Università della Svizzera Italiana have made an important contribution to the development of relations between Switzerland and Italy.
