BSI ART COLLECTION

Selected artworks beetween tradition and innovation

Since its foundation in 1873, BSI has always been at the forefront of promoting and raising awareness of momentous occasions in culture and art. BSI is more than a patron - it vigorously promotes communication in these areas, organising and taking part in events. The bank has always maintained its commitment to art, music and culture, with an active and constant presence at high-profile performances and exhibitions. In the spirit of this tradition, BSI began a collection of works of art in 2000, the BSI Art Collection, which has been enriched by the works of very prestigious artists since its inception.

Today the collection comprises about 80 works of art, including installations, sculptures, collages, drawings and photographs by artists such as Daniel Buren, John Chamberlain, Tony Cragg, Fausto Melotti, Mario Merz and Giulio Paolini, as well as young artists who are winning international recognition and successfully making names for themselves in the world of art, such as Franz Ackermann, Olafur Eliasson, Liam Gillick and Daniel Roth.

Many works in BSI's collection of contemporary art are on permanent display at various BSI offices in Switzerland and abroad, offering a rare moment of meeting and cultural growth, concepts BSI is proud to promote. The works in the collection were conceived and created by the artists to adapt to the spaces in the BSI buildings or to reflect the culture of the region in which they are located.
Each building gains its own distinct identity through the works on display and strengthens its ties to the region, the region's culture and the people who live there. In Bellinzona, Daniel Roth has created a series of installations that refer to the geophysical structure surrounding the city in Ticino, and the fine tradition of carnival that distinguishes it.
In Turin, in contrast, Peter Halley has created a site-specific installation comprising wall drawings conceptualised especially for the walls of the building.

These avant-garde works of art provoke intense moments of emotion and participation, which convey the magic, vitality and originality of artistic creativity.
